Join us for a comprehensive one-hour presentation delving into the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in addressing panic disorder among children and teenagers. From understanding the unique challenges of panic disorder in youth to practical strategies for intervention and coping mechanisms, attendees will gain valuable insights into how to provide CBT with the goal of empowering young individuals to manage and overcome their symptoms.
It is estimated that one in 12 children in the United States of America will experience the death of a parent or sibling before they turn 18 (JAG, 2023). This roughly translates to two-three students per classroom. In Dr. Heitkemper's presentation, attendees will embark on a journey to comprehend the multifaceted impacts of grief on a student's developmental journey and academic trajectory. By delving into research-backed insights and real-world anecdotes, participants will enhance their toolbox of grief resources and gain invaluable skills to navigate sensitive conversations with grieving students and families.
Many school mental health professionals find they struggle to make meaningful headway with students when parents and caregivers are inadvertently reinforcing behavioral escalations (e.g. lowering expectations for the student's functioning in the face of threats to harm self/others, property destruction, etc.). This webinar will focus on providing school mental health professionals with tangible strategies and protocols to help caregivers plan ahead for these "extinction bursts" on the path to supporting students in developing more effective self-management skills.
Racism unfortunately continues to impact the lives of our young people. However, it can be hard, as clinicians, to know how to efficiently conceptualize the impacts of these racism-related experiences in ways that clarify avenues for offering support and healing. In this webinar, you will learn how to flexibly adapt your treatment plans for such experiences when working with youth who identify as persons of color. Specifically, this webinar will demonstrate how to conduct a REACH-Informed Case
Conceptualization - a conceptualization format that helps clinicians clarify sources of racism-related stress, the impact of this stress, and treatment options for supporting youth with the racism-related stresses they encounter. We will likely have time for 1-2 attendees to seek consultation about their own cases, so feel tree to bring a case to potentially discuss.
This webinar will focus on evidence-based social-emotional and mindful learning practices. Bridging research and practice, we will review rationale for these practices as well as ways to apply them in schools. Experiential exercises and concrete strategies will be provided to enhance well-being for both educators and students, and resources will be shared for continued learning in these areas.
