Divorce is a significant life event that affects not only parents but also the children navigating its challenges. Over one million children face the impacts of divorce annually. Approximately 9% of children live in homes influenced by separation, often encountering emotional, psychological, physical, and financial struggles.This webinar is designed to empower counselors with the tools and strategies needed to support students living between two homes. Attendees will discover evidence-based practices that promote stability and understanding for children adjusting to life after divorce. The session will include creative activities that help students process changes, build resilience, and foster emotional well-being. Additionally, this session focuses on building lasting rapport with students and their families, encouraging a collaborative approach to support each child’s growth and success. Stephanie Heitkemper, PhD, LPC, RPT-S, FT.
Stephanie Heitkemper, PhD, LPC, RPT-S, FT is the founder and owner of Resilient Minds Counseling, where she specializes in helping individuals, children, and families navigate life’s challenges, including grief, trauma, and change. With a deep passion for supporting others through emotional healing, Stephanie utilizes an integrative approach in her counseling practice, drawing from techniques such as Play Therapy (as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor), creative expression, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – where she is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. In addition to her work at Resilient Minds Counseling, Stephanie actively contributes to the community through her involvement in organizations like the HeartLight Center, a Denver-based grief support and education center, where she has served on the board of directors since 2017. She also dedicates her time to Camp JoJo (2020), a camp supporting teens impacted by suicide.
