"Emily was fantastic to work with and helped my son tremendously. He wasn’t always super cooperative within therapy sessions, but she worked with me and him to get it to a level that he could tolerate and honestly made a huge change in our lives by helping him deal with his anxiety."

"Aliza was truly a Godsend for our daughter. It was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel for a while - but after she got to meet with Aliza weekly, we could see a true difference in our daughter. It's been about a year, and she is able to be discharged. While we are sad and will miss Aliza greatly, it is so nice to have our daughter back and to have tools to help her."

"My son’s counselor, Julia, was so amazing! From the very first visit, she worked to build a good rapport with my son, creating a safe space for him to open up. There were a few different areas we wanted my son to work through and skills to build on. Julia did not just have open ending counseling that never ends, she helped us create an immediate action plan and goals for my son to achieve. He was recently administratively discharged after approximately 2 years of counseling and the growth I’ve seen in my son is undeniable. Julia and handspring are available for us anytime we need even after discharge and handspring billing and corporate staff have been so helpful answering any questions I had and helping facilitate my son’s counseling."

"We were completely blown away with the level of professionalism and impact Dorry had with our daughter Scout. Before Handspring, we felt like we were almost held captive in our own family with her behavior patterns. Dorry was so amazing at really peeling back the onion of emotions with Scout and both giving her the confidence to express as well as the tools to help regulate her emotions. Dorry was patient and effective in every session and we couldn't be happier with the results and the change and growth we have seen in Scout throughout this process."

"I am thankful for my son’s experience with Handspring and with Allie. I see tremendous growth in my son. He is less fearful. He is more confident now when encountering his phobias. He uses the strategies he learned from Allie and I hope he continues to do so."

FAQs

What age range do you treat?

We provide virtual therapy for:

‍

  • Children ages 8–12
  • Teenagers ages 13–17
  • Young adults ages 18–29
  • Parents of children over age 2 for parent coaching and support.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person care?

Yes. For the most common mental health challenges in children and teens, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, virtual therapy is clinically proven to be just as effective as in-person care.

‍

Comparable Outcomes: A major 2021 meta-analysis published in American Psychologist reviewed data from tens of thousands of youth and found that teletherapy outcomes were comparable to in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

‍

Strong Connection: Studies confirm that the "therapeutic alliance" (the trust and bond between a child and their therapist) forms just as strongly over video as it does face-to-face.

‍

Better Consistency: Virtual care often leads to higher attendance rates because it removes common barriers like travel time, traffic, and scheduling conflicts.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes — we’re in-network with:

‍

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Aetna
  • Oscar
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • Optum
  • Cigna
  • AmeriHealth

‍

Before services start, we’ll verify your benefits and let you know your exact copay. Most families pay less than $30 per session (including all costs such as copays, deductibles, and coinsurance).

‍

We currently do not accept Medicaid, CHIP, or other state-based plans.

Can I talk to my child’s therapist between sessions?

Absolutely - we see parents as essential partners in the therapy process. We encourage regular check-ins with your child’s therapist between sessions so you can stay in the loop and feel supported every step of the way.

What happens during the consult call?

Your 30-minute consult is a chance to share what’s going on for your child, learn about Handspring’s approach, and see if we’re the right fit. We’ll walk through your goals, answer questions, and outline what care could look like for your family.

Who joins the call?

Typically, a parent or guardian joins the call. If your child is 18 or older, they’re welcome to join directly — or together with you if that feels best.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No referral is needed. Parents and caregivers can book directly with us — it only takes a few minutes.

What if I want a consult for multiple children?

We’re happy to accommodate families with multiple children. Consults last 30 minutes for one child, 45 minutes for two, and 60 minutes for three.
