"My son was extremely conservative and never shared his feelings with me. He would get bullied at school and he would not mention it. When I asked him questions about his feelings he would just say that he doesn’t want to talk and he likes to keep his feelings to himself. After his therapy sessions with Alexis he’s been more expressive and happy. Now I can’t find his “power off “ button lol. I’ll be forever grateful!"

"I cannot say enough wonderful things about Michael Rodriguez. From the very first session, he created a safe, warm, and welcoming environment where my child felt comfortable opening up. He have an incredible way of connecting with children—patient, kind, and truly understanding. I’ve seen so much positive growth since beginning therapy. My child is learning healthy ways to express emotions, build confidence, and cope with challenges."

"I'm thankful for the time we spent with Susannah, and am hopeful that this is not the end of our relationship. I appreciate how she made herself available to us when needed. When my son was struggling to attend his sessions, we were able to use that time for parent training to work on strategies, and just talk openly about all that was going on. Though my son still needs additional support, Susannah's help has benefited our whole family."

"There has been a marked change in my daughters ability to cope with anxiety and stressors and using the coping skills she learned she has been able to get through situations that she couldn't before. Her self confidence has also increased. Many thanks to Shanna - my daughter was sad to not see her each week any more but the reason for that was a great one."

FAQs

What age range do you treat?

We provide virtual therapy for:

‍

  • Children ages 8–12
  • Teenagers ages 13–17
  • Young adults ages 18–29
  • Parents of children over age 2 for parent coaching and support.

Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person care?

Yes. For the most common mental health challenges in children and teens, including anxiety, depression, and trauma, virtual therapy is clinically proven to be just as effective as in-person care.

‍

Comparable Outcomes: A major 2021 meta-analysis published in American Psychologist reviewed data from tens of thousands of youth and found that teletherapy outcomes were comparable to in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

‍

Strong Connection: Studies confirm that the "therapeutic alliance" (the trust and bond between a child and their therapist) forms just as strongly over video as it does face-to-face.

‍

Better Consistency: Virtual care often leads to higher attendance rates because it removes common barriers like travel time, traffic, and scheduling conflicts.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes — we’re in-network with:

‍

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Aetna
  • Oscar
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • Optum
  • Cigna
  • AmeriHealth

‍

Before services start, we’ll verify your benefits and let you know your exact copay. Most families pay less than $30 per session (including all costs such as copays, deductibles, and coinsurance).

‍

We currently do not accept Medicaid, CHIP, or other state-based plans.

Can I talk to my child’s therapist between sessions?

Absolutely - we see parents as essential partners in the therapy process. We encourage regular check-ins with your child’s therapist between sessions so you can stay in the loop and feel supported every step of the way.

What happens during the consult call?

Your 30-minute consult is a chance to share what’s going on for your child, learn about Handspring’s approach, and see if we’re the right fit. We’ll walk through your goals, answer questions, and outline what care could look like for your family.

Who joins the call?

Typically, a parent or guardian joins the call. If your child is 18 or older, they’re welcome to join directly — or together with you if that feels best.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No referral is needed. Parents and caregivers can book directly with us — it only takes a few minutes.

What if I want a consult for multiple children?

We’re happy to accommodate families with multiple children. Consults last 30 minutes for one child, 45 minutes for two, and 60 minutes for three.
