Expert child and teen therapy in Philadelphia
Finding the right therapist for your child in Philadelphia can feel overwhelming. Between long waitlists, limited availability, and the challenge of finding someone who truly understands kids, many families struggle to get the help they need.
Handspring Health makes it easier. We connect Philadelphia families with licensed therapists who specialize exclusively in children, teens, and young people ages 8-29. Our virtual sessions eliminate the commute across the city and fit into your family's busy schedule—whether you're in Center City, the Northeast, or anywhere in between.
What we treat
Our Philadelphia-area therapists are trained to help children and teens with a range of challenges, including anxiety and excessive worry, depression and low mood, ADHD and attention difficulties, social anxiety and peer relationships, school refusal and academic stress, behavioral challenges at home or school, adjustment to divorce, moves, or other transitions, and low self-esteem or confidence issues.
Our approach: Evidence-based therapy that works
We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the gold-standard treatment for childhood anxiety and depression. CBT teaches kids practical skills to understand their thoughts, manage difficult emotions, and change unhelpful behaviors. These aren't just coping strategies for now—they're tools your child will use for life.
For parents, we offer Behavioral Parent Training (BPT) sessions that give you concrete strategies to support your child's progress at home. Because when parents are equipped with the right tools, kids get better faster.
Insurance and pricing
We accept most major insurance plans in Pennsylvania, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Independence Blue Cross, Highmark, Amerihealth, Optum, and Oscar Health. Most families pay less than $30 per session after insurance. We also accept HSA and FSA payments.
Not covered? Out-of-pocket sessions are $125 each, and we provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

Most families begin therapy within a week of their consultation.
Why Philadelphia families choose Handspring
Philadelphia parents are busy. Between work, school pickups, and activities, adding another appointment to the calendar feels impossible. That's why we designed Handspring to fit your life.
Virtual sessions mean no fighting traffic on the Schuylkill or searching for parking in Rittenhouse Square. Your child can meet with their therapist from home, after school or in the evening, at times that work for your family.
And because our therapists work exclusively with young people, they understand how to engage kids and teens in a way that actually works. No awkward silences or one-word answers—our therapists know how to connect with even the most reluctant teen.

Common questions from Philadelphia parents
How do I know if my child needs therapy?
Signs that therapy might help include persistent worry that interferes with daily activities, avoiding school or social situations, frequent meltdowns or emotional outbursts, changes in sleep or appetite, declining grades or loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy, or difficulty making or keeping friends. If you're concerned, a free consultation can help you determine if therapy is the right next step.
What ages do you work with?
We provide therapy for children, teens, and young adults ages 8-29. We also offer parent coaching for caregivers who want support managing behavioral challenges at home.
How long does therapy typically last?
Treatment length depends on your child's needs and goals. Their therapist will set goals with your family, track progress, and discuss when it may be appropriate to reduce or complete care.
Can my child do virtual therapy?
Yes—and most kids actually prefer it. They feel more comfortable in their own space, and the virtual format eliminates the anxiety that can come with visiting a new office. All your child needs is a private space and a device with a camera.
Do you prescribe medication?
Medication management is available in Pennsylvania when clinically appropriate. If combined care may help, the therapy and prescribing teams coordinate treatment with the family.
Support for Philadelphia students
From students in School District of Philadelphia communities to young adults attending Temple University, Drexel University, or the University of Pennsylvania, school and life transitions can bring real stress. Handspring provides private virtual therapy for eligible Pennsylvania residents and is not affiliated with these institutions.
